Author -=The Firestarter=- ---------------------------------------------------------- [ iPhone - yFy Network Finder! ] ---------------------------------------------------------- Greetings once again my minions. well as i download BT4 Final - since after upgrading from the pre-release on the trusty old eeePC, i ran out of space on its 4gb SD card (really should invest in that 8GB one i've been eyeing up for months), as well as seeding some random blowjob porn DVDRip that i've not yet had the pleasure of watching (hope to god it doesn't contain a transexual, checking screen shots that come with torrents can help avoid such mental scarring - you think goatse was bad?) i figured that it was time to tap out another article for SWAT. Recently i acquired a new toy from orange, t'was an upgrade to an iPhone, love them or hate them, you can't deny they are an awesome bit of kit. While i've yet to jailbreak the thing, i figured that it was a good idea to mess about with a few apps before i went down that road. Being a bit of a tight bastard when it comes to paying for things i decided to choose my apps carefully. Low and behold, from a little digging around i found... yFy Network Finder ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This awesome little tool is used for war driving, well more or less. Simple to set up - in fact it works pretty much out of the box, although changing some of the settings to show all wireless networks found (WEP, Open and WPA(2)) came in handy. Set the time it takes to do a scan - i've used 0.2 seconds if moving through a town or city via car or bus, and if just walking around, then 3 - 5 seconds seemed to do it. Although 3 seconds will probably be ample if you walk around at the speed i do - don't want to run the battery down too quickly; which this application will do. The beauty of it is that it not only keeps the list of networks you've found (some apps out there archive said list and you have to start a new list when you decide to go war driving again) It uses the built in GPS to make a note of where said network(s) where found, and allows you to overlay it to google maps (and/or google earth). This wonderful feature helps you track all of your war driving discoveries in easy to view map format hahaha. with each scan it allows the map locations to be a little better pin pointed, so if you're doing the same route over and over again you'll eventually get a somewhat more accurate location stamped on the network, although that said given the range of most wireless networks the initial stamp on it is accurate enough. With an in-car charger, or one of those external battery pack thingies you can get for the iPhone, you'll be able to scan til your hearts content for networks the length and bredth of the UK and more! Allowing you to find open or WEP networks for numberous WEP cracking or surfing exercises is a massive bonus, helps give you something to do on your lunch break with your trusty ol' eeePC. for this app alone, i'd now rank the iPhone as one of the many handy tools one can use for internet badness hahaha. The cost of the app, just a few quid, i found well spent, hopefully it will encourage the developer to stay ahead of his game when it comes to this war driving application. Definate 5 stars from me on this one!
